Beamer

Before I started to use beamer to illustrate my points or share a paper I read with others, I would always go with Powerpoint to make my slides. However, sometimes I might find my slides (even worse, others might point out directly):

  • lack of logical connections/order
  • try to cram all the contents into one page without animations to clarify the orders
  • Math equations look extremely incohesive and sometimes just ugly (iguanatex may helps)

After trying to improve my skills for making powerpoint slides, I turned to Beamer, which attracts me due to these features:

  • native with $\LaTeX$, plus many papers offer .tex sources, sometimes it’s just copy & paste
  • helps me & the audience to clarify the logic (thanks to \section and \subsection)
  • Math equations look great
  • It’s really hard to make extremely bad presentations (though it might be comparably hard to make great ones)

Personally, I prefer to use metropolis for illustrations. My daily version of beamer template is based on the original metrolis theme (with custom modifications), to make presentation much easier, I prefer to use pympress to display my beamer slides (tried pdfpc, but it does not work well with zoom).

My personal beamer template could be downloaded from here, an illustration of this template could be found in some of my posts, for example this one
